Watching Wild Swings on Wall Street

Transcript

Arete’s Mary L. Reha:
“When you're thinking about retiring and losing market changes like that, suddenly, it scares you.”

Arizona’s Family’s Tess Rafols:

“The stock market is set to open up later this hour, and all eyes are on Wall Street this morning after a wild ride in the markets yesterday.”

Arizona’s Family’s Scott Pasmore:

“Oh! It sure was, so 3 On Your Side’s Susan Campbell is here to break And what happened and what it all means. Good morning.”

Arizona’s Family, Susan Campbell:

“Good morning. Yeah. It was quite the roller coaster. At one point, the Dow had tumbled more than 1100 points, and it was in the red most of the day. But right before the closing bell, stocks rallied and the Dow ended up 99 points, snapping a 6-day streak of losses.

The S and P 500 and the Nasdaq also ended in the green after their own dramatic swings. There are a multitude of factors playing into this, including inflation, looming interest rate hikes, supply chain challenges, and fears of a Russian invasion in Ukraine. Though uncertainty in the market can feel really uncomfortable, financial experts say it's expected, so you have to know your own risk tolerance and your own goals.”

Arete’s Mary L. Reha:

“If you just see these drastic fluctuations happen, we do recover. We always recover.

So be a little patient with it. Educate yourself. Make sure you're talking to a professional so that you get good information and make sure they understand what your long-term goals are. What it is you're trying to reach so that they can help you protect the money and investments that you have.”

Arizona’s Family, Susan Campbell:

“The market is set to open in just about 20 minutes right now, the futures for all 3 major indices are down.

The Dow futures are down about 250 points right now. We are also watching for earnings reports on deck this week. Some big ones, including Microsoft, Apple, and Boeing. So lots of stuff to track, guys.”
